Having been trained in NVR as a parent bringing up my Autistic Son in 2014, I became a level 3 NVR Practitioner in 2015. This enables me to work in Schools, delivering the NVR course to parents as well as combining my further qualifications in Children’s and Young People’s Mental Health (Level 3), Autism Awareness Diploma (Level 3) and Mindfulness in Children (Level 3). More recently I am out in the community delivering in person group programs with NVR South Parent Practitioners. As an NVR convert and using it both professionally and personally for many years, I am pleased to become a member of NVR UK and look forward to the further delivery and roll out of NVR in the UK and worldwide.

NVR Action and Practice CIC is a London based social enterprise company providing bespoke Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) programmes for local community agencies (CAMHS, Social care, Voluntary and Education) individual professionals and parents with lived experience of NVR inside and outside of London. Our Associate members have experience working together to design, plan, run and supervise NVR parenting groups, mentoring, hosting conferences and professional trainings and supervision. My name is Julie Hamisi and together with my colleague and friend, Helen McEleny we offer NVR Informed Training for professionals within CAMHS, Social Care and training organisations. Our NVR Informed Training is delivered to NVR UK Accredited Standards. After many years of working as a nurse, midwife and health visitor I began to specialise in children’s mental health and in 2013 qualified as a Systemic Family Psychotherapist and subsequently as a supervisor. I am accredited by AFT and a member of UKCP. My passion for NVR began in 2008 after attending the NVR conference and being inspired by listening to parents who had been part of the NVR programme. It is this passion that we hope to share with colleagues within our training, our aim is for participants to leave on Day 4 feeling inspired and confident to share the ideas. I hold onto and am influenced by Haim Omer who said that if we really want to help children, then we have to enable their parents to feel heard and understood and it is this message that I wish to take forward.

Myself and two other parents built NVR South Parent Practitioners, to support those struggling with challenging behaviours from their child or children in the home, school and community. I have been working as an NVR Parent Practitioner in Southampton and Hampshire, having attended an NVR group in 2014 when struggling with my daughter’s extreme behaviour and going on to train as an accredited practitioner. Although working for 20 years in banking before I had my third child, I began to volunteer in schools after seeing my daughter struggle every day and then went on to train as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and School Librarian. I am proud to be a member of the steering group for NVR UK and have a special interest in Parent Participation and the Child's Voice within NVR. Like my colleagues, I use NVR strategies every day with my daughter who is amazing! I know that our lived experiences help to break down barriers and give other parents hope.

I trained as a Family Therapist in 2009 and started my NVR journey in 2016 where I trained as a practitioner and trainer. Since that time I have gone on to train many staff working in an adolescent inpatient unit with aggressive and violent young people. NVR informed practices has supported the inpatient unit to create a culture of inclusion, understanding and acceptance along side the importance of persistence and parental presence. NVR tools and techniques will continue to support staff working in challenging environments. I am currently in the process of setting up and running a day service programme for anorexia nervous and creating another NVR informed system. I am Lucky enough to have an opportunity to expand the realms of NVR and what it can achieve by becoming an active member of NVR UK and uniting with colleagues and parents to spread the philosophy of NVR.

Sue Dromey has worked in the field of fostering and adoption for some 40 years as an integrative child psychotherapist, NVR Practitioner, supervisor, drama therapist, trainer, guardian ad litem and social worker. She recently retired from practice manager from the child and family service PAC-UK(family Action), having worked there for 20 years. She continues as an Associate, within PAC-UK NVR team. PAC-UK is an independent Adoption supporting agency with offices in Leeds, Liverpool and London. We reach out to individuals, families and professionals from the Scottish borders to the south coast. Sue is part of the PAC-UK team who developed the child to parent violence project under a DfE grant. The NVR team at PAC-UK have been successfully running face to face groups in different regions for some 7 years. We are able to offer online groups for adoptive parents and special guardians, across the UK. Adoptive parents and special guardians (if the child has spent a period of time in the care system can access the adoption support fund through their local social workers. There is a rolling program of groups with more being planned for the future.
